Companion Reaction Syndrome or CRS is a condition that began to affect Humans after the Taelons arrived on Earth. Typically, it is suffered by those whose belief systems have been called into question by the knowledge that there is other intelligent life.
Symptoms frequently include depression and anxiety and, in many cases, suicide is the result. CRS is most often found in groups of people and there have been mass suicides.
When mysterious suicides began to occur at the Amish settlement of Paradise, William Boone suspected there might be a case of CRS at work. In fact, the suicides were caused by exposure to the "Scarecrow Probe."
